About us

We are a hard working, family of eight. Swimming in the sea when we aren't busy on our small holding. Daddy dragon has to work away a lot, so this blog is to let him keep up with our adventures at home.

Sunday drive

A slightly foggy,

though far too sunny to be indoors,

perfect sort of day,

for a Sunday drive.

As well as,

taking the time

to stop and explore

occasionally

along our way.

Happy Sunday.

The sun has got his hat on

Hip hip hip hooray.

The sun has got his hat on and his coming out today.

The hatchlings sang this all morning as we drove down to the beach.

Golden sand? Yes, please!

'Why do we not have googles Mama! Sand hurts my eyes!'

Must not forget next time.

Though I'll leave his big sisters to discuss the fashion statement of snow boots and swim googles with him.

The girls worked up their tolerance

for the cool water.

And the sky, kindly, stayed bright all morning.

I think, just maybe, I now have photographic evidence that I ought to encourage or at least remember to bring hair elastics...

Nonetheless, it was a lovely morning.

The tide is out

and it is time to play.

What do you think we'll find today?

Clams of various sizes and shapes, whelks and limpets, and cockles in the sand.

This pair mostly caught a lot of sand, seaweed and wet.

Lots of wet.

This hatchling found a little friend.

A young brown crab.

Now, he is named crabby.

Hatchling no2 asks, 'Can we feed him up. Grow him into a big juicy crab, then we can eat him.'

She is pretty grounded this hatchling.

We found many cockles, but not the razor clams we thought would live in this area.

Nonetheless, it was a beautiful morning, well spent.

Long awaited summer day

A beautiful new beach to explore.

I do love how clear

and clean the water is.

This hatchling came prepared.

He and daddydragon went off to hunt in the rock pools,

while other hatchlings enjoyed the sand.

This hatchling is getting so big.

He says, 'Look!'

'All nine shells. Me shells!'

And so began the hatchling sand covering.

While this hatchling made sand angels.

She is getting pretty big too. Sniff.

A happy hatchling,

and a beautiful day!

Today I am very thankful for all the blessings in my life.

Ring of Brodgar

DaddyDragon came home for a much needed visit.

We took advantage of some nicer weather and headed out to the Ring of Brodgar.

We've certainly been here long enough, without having paid it a visit.

We walked through a field of these fluffs, like little cotton tails dancing in the wind.

Along a wooden bridge,

up to the standing stones.

It is really beautiful, high up on what must have been just a little peninsula, before the lochs were established.

Those who built the circle took care to bring stone from many different islands around Orkney.

That can't have been easy.

This guy's help is not necessarily appreciated by his younger brother.

What a lovely day, - all be it not the gorgeous weather, I have been hoping for -

in a lovely place to be.

July?

How is it even possible it is July?

The weather has been terrible, the chores, far far too many.

Have I mentioned the bad weather?

There has been a lot of ipad time round here.

Best presents ever.

And see this guy.

See that face.

He saw an antique car and in his enthusiasm to get right up close,

he ran right into it.

He just kind of slid down the hub cap, on his face.

Boy loves his cars...
