About us

We are a hard working, family of eight. Swimming in the sea when we aren't busy on our small holding. Daddy dragon has to work away a lot, so this blog is to let him keep up with our adventures at home.

Pride grows from insecurity

I don't to use this blog as a place to discuss deep and thoughtful topics very often.

Mostly, this is due to my attempts to keep perspective and keep focused on all the good in my life.

I think that is important. There is always so much for which to be thankful.

Today, it is worth considering the damage that pride does to a person, to their marriage and in their life generally.

Pride grows from insecurity.

As though it will shield you from your weaknesses.

It provides false comfort in the illusion of independence and self sufficiency.

Not only is it a completely self indulgent and selfish pursuit, it cheats you out of the joy of receiving and being part of a team.

Pride manifests its self in defensive behaviour and criticising others.

Building a crooked and unsteady wall to avoid relating to others and causing rifts between those who care.

Pride cheats you out of true companionship and leaves both you and those who would try to build a relationship with you with a sour taste and little room for growth.

Let go of pride: over money, over physical strength, over martyrdom in the family home, over who works harder or who has suffered most greatly.

To quote a popular lyric, 'The race is long, and in the end, it is only with your self.'

It's been a hectic week...

via @[372843136091545:274:Expanded Consciousness]

and we are almost on the other side of the challenges that we face today.

Once I come up for air, I must update with the adventures we are having.

With one week until my deadline, I'm writing like a mad woman, and my focus is on chocolate and coffee.

Those are sacred, it is known.

And I wish to thank my patient, and even the less patient hatchlings, for their support during this busy time.

A whole lot of ipad time has been going on over here, I tell ya.

I sincerely wish you the happiest of weekends.

Thoughtful

sun set at beach

Sometimes we just need the space to think.

To work out what new information means and how best to address it.

Which is remarkably hard to find in our 24/7 digital society.

Sometimes, I crave a little bit of downtime, but the number of distractions and to do lists tends to mean that the reality is juggling act.

I was once told a change is as good as a solution. I guess I had better hope so. I had thought that by moving to a larger open space that my thoughts, habits, and general being would reflect that, and yet, I can't say it has. Work is ever present, and there is always something more to be done. It is not that I do not crave to be useful, it is just that sometimes, I think I need a little space to sort through the many thoughts whirling about my head.

When I feel like this I tend to clean, like really clean, scrub the ceilings and the lot. Slowly, clean corner by clean corner, I begin to find peace of mind.

How do find or create your downtime?
